Top Five Places to Write to Loved Ones

In this busy season it can feel like everything is speeding up as to-do lists grow, diary dates get filled. It’s like time is simply slipping away from us. We all know that despite the busyness of the season, at the end of the day, it’s the people that really matter.

With less than a week to go until Christmas, we’re setting aside time to write our Christmas cards.

When the malls are packed with shoppers and home can feel a bit chaotic, here are our top five favourite places to take a break and write our Christmas cards where we can focus on the person we’re writing to and write a meaningful card that they can treasure.

1. Local Park

Sitting on a bench, or on the grass under a tree, watching the world go by. We reflect on the impact our loved one has had on our lives.

2. Favourite Cafe

We love going to our favourite cafe (currently our local, Hello Friends and Allies) at a time where the cafe is quiet like first thing in the morning or in the afternoon. Over a flat white we think back to the meals shared with our loved one over the year and the meaningful conversations had.

3. Library

As cliche as it might sound, we find libraries are a great places for reflection and quiet - even in the school holidays! The silence of the library reminds us of the times our loved one sat through a hard time with us.

4. On a Hill

Taking cards and pens to the top of a hill may seem weird. But when the busyness of life feels overwhelming, there’s something about sitting on top of a hill and looking out over everything that gives us a better perspective on life. It’s in this moment we realise how grateful we are for our loved one.

5. Seaside

Nothing beats the rhythmic sound of waves crashing on the beach. If there’s no beach nearby, a lake, river or stream is just as good. In the crashing of the waves we think of the times when our loved one stood by us during life’s storms.
