The Stories Behind the Cards
Kia ora e te whānau!
There's a story behind everything.
A story behind you.
A story behind what lead you to end up reading this right now.
A story behind each of our cards, which the creators would like to share with you.

These fun kiwiana cards are hand drawn by our youngest artist, 13 year old Michelle.
"I like using alcohol markers because they have bold consistent colours and are fun to work with. When I think of New Zealand, I think of the beaches, farms and our native trees and birds so I wanted to include these on my cards." - Michelle

These creative collage cards are made by the creative Bethany.
"My designs were originally inspired by the style of traditional Christian iconography, and the medium of collage allows me to expand this to incorporate many different styles that people have used to depict the classic nativity scene. I was also inspired by the song The Greatest Gift by Sufjan Stevens." - Bethany

These beautiful minimalist cards were painted by Elizabeth.
"I went for the minimalistic approach for a simple design and I like using groups of three. Watercolours are my preferred medium because they blend nicely." - Elizabeth

These vibrant watercolour cards were created by one of our youth workers, Esther.
"I wanted to create a card that took us back to the first Christmas, and I really love the Christmas carol Oh Holy Night. I was also inspired by the book Huia Come Home by Jay Ruka, which I read this year. The Huia flying home to Aotearoa, New Zealand, reminds me of how we travel to be with loved ones at Christmas." - Esther

It's always good to remember the story behind us.
So on reflection, what's the story behind you?
Or what's the story behind some of your precious things?
As we continue writing Launching Rocket's story, together let's go on a journey to remind people that we care about them.
